Our philosophy

Principles we won’t trade for speed.

Most companies have values on a wall somewhere. These five are the ones we actually use when we decide what to build, whom to work with and when to say no.

Responsible entrepreneurship

Being an entrepreneur means taking risks with your own money, but also with other people’s time, trust and livelihoods. We take that seriously.

Germany has an old name for this: the ehrbarer Kaufmann, the honourable merchant of the Hanseatic cities, whose handshake counted as a contract. It is still the best description of responsible entrepreneurship we know.

Every business we start or back has to pass a simple test: would we be comfortable explaining exactly how it makes money to anyone who asks? If the honest answer is no, we don’t do it, however good the numbers look.

In practice
  • No business models that rely on customers not reading the small print
  • Fair contracts and clear pricing across all our brands
  • Suppliers and freelancers are paid promptly
  • Legal and tax obligations are met properly, not creatively
ii.

Long-term thinking

Most of what matters in business compounds slowly: reputation, customer relationships, a team that knows its craft.

We plan in years and we’re content to be the tortoise. Our brands are not built for a quick sale. They’re built to still be useful in ten years, and to be run by people who are proud of them.

In practice
  • No fixed exit horizon for any brand in the group
  • Profits are reinvested before they’re distributed
  • We’d rather grow a little slower than borrow against the future
  • Big decisions are checked against where we want to be in five years
iii.

Reliability

For a hosting company, reliability is the product. For a scholarship programme, it’s the promise that the support will be there next term.

For a holding company, it’s the reason anyone works with you at all. We try to be dependable to the point of being boring, and we think that’s a compliment.

In practice
  • We only promise what we can deliver, and we put it in writing
  • Every project has one named person responsible for it
  • When something goes wrong, we say so early and plainly
  • Processes are written down, so knowledge doesn’t leave with a person
iv.

Innovation

We like new ideas. We’re a holding company built around them. But we prefer innovation with a method.

That means small experiments, honest measurement and the discipline to stop what doesn’t work. New technology is a tool, not a strategy, and we adopt it when it genuinely helps the people we serve.

In practice
  • Ideas are tested on a small scale before they get a brand
  • Every experiment starts with the question it’s meant to answer
  • Brands share what they learn with each other, failures included
  • We try new tools where they help customers, not where they’re fashionable
v.

Social commitment

No business succeeds on its own. Each one relies on schools that educated its people, communities that welcome it, and a culture that makes life about more than work.

We see giving back as part of the job, not as marketing. That’s why a share of what we earn goes into education, culture and community projects, and why we gave our largest commitment a company of its own.

In practice
  • A share of profits goes to education, culture and community projects
  • Brigid Education makes our commitment to education permanent
  • We support projects with know-how as well as money
  • We prefer causes close to where we work, where we can see the effect

Our approach

How we build and invest.

We don’t spread small bets across hundreds of companies. We build a few things properly and stay involved.

  1. Found

We start brands ourselves when we see a gap we understand. Tigernmas provides the initial capital, the first team and the operational backbone.

  2. Participate

We take stakes in young digital companies whose founders share our standards, preferring a few meaningful partnerships to many small ones.

  3. Support

Every brand can draw on shared marketing, technology, finance and administration. They focus on their customers; we take care of the rest.

  4. Hold

We stay. Brands in the group aren’t groomed for a sale. Success means a healthy business, year after year.

What we look for

When a business is a good fit.

Whether it’s our own idea or a company we’re considering joining, the questions are the same.

  • A real problem, for customers who are willing to pay to have it solved
  • Founders or teams who care more about quality than headlines
  • A model that can become profitable without endless funding rounds
  • Digital at its core, in fields where our experience genuinely helps
  • Room to grow at its own pace
  • Values that sit comfortably next to our five principles
